About Wavelength
Wavelength is a Dallas-based cultural arts magazine issued by indie publishing house, Spontaneous Afflatus. The idea for Wavelength came out of many discussions between local musician Will Latham and writer Brittany Griffiths. The two met after a blind-pairing by a mutual friend who asked them to host an open mic at a local coffee shop in east Dallas. After months of working together, hosting events around the city and collaborating on other outside projects, they devised a plan to begin a cultural arts magazine that centered on local artists, musicians, and writers. Over the last three years, the city of Dallas has experienced a sort of "surge" in creative output, but despite this flood of new art, music, and literature, there is an absence of local publications whose primary focus is set on painting a broad picture of the regional, contemporary cultural arts community.
Wavelength hopes to fill that void by functioning as both an outlet for creative journalism and a production company, whose aim is to take local artists, musicians, and writers from page to stage.
Spontaneous Afflatus is an independent publishing house out of Dallas, Texas that specializes in printing poetry and short story collections.
Spontaneous Afflatus began as a portfolio showcase in 2014, and over the course of three years, developed into an online collective of local writers and artists. The slow expansion of this network of writers created the perfect foundation for launching an independent publishing house, and in June 2017, Spontaneous Afflatus released its first collection of poems. S.A. has since published two more books of poetry and has had a hand in hosting a number of readings for writers around Dallas.
